Classical Spanish Guitar Music Weddings Spanish themed events, dinners, parties
I play Spanish classical Guitar Music for:
- Spanish themed events
- Private dinners
- Parties etc.
Perhaps because of my Spanish origins I first played Flamenco music.
Nonetheless, over the years I developed a great love for the Spanish classical guitar.
Spanish classical guitar music
I have added a playlist to my YouTube channel called Classical Guitar Pieces.
You can watch a lovely romantic piece.
I am now gradually adding new classical guitar pieces.
Often these are recorded live.
As such I will try to add a new classical piece each week.
Here are a few ideas for Spanish Classical Music which I hope you will find helpful.
Sometimes people have a small intimate gathering of family members and close friends.
They consider hiring a Spanish Classical guitarist to help to create a warm relaxed atmosphere.
In these cases, I think that generally gentle, sweet pieces are appropriate.
If you are considering booking a Spanish classical guitarist for an event, virtuoso compositions may also work.
I list some of these classical Spanish pieces in my other Blog entry: Spanish Flamenco Guitarist for your Tapas/Paella Event
Choosing Spanish classical guitar music
Naturally, I choose the pieces in consultation with you.
I like to avoid two extremes of the scale:
There are some very abstract rather atonal classical pieces.
They can be difficult to make sense of.
They seem to be a sequence of disconnected sounds with no apparent melody or sense of rhythm.
Certainly, such pieces are respected and indeed are studied at an advance level.
Nonetheless, perhaps these would not fit a lovely evening for special guests.
On the other end of the scale, I will never dumb things down.
I avoid over simplified tunes.
I prefer a fuller more interesting arrangement of simple and lovely melody.
The song La Paloma by the Spanish composer Sebastián Yradier is a typical example of this
Likewise, the Classical Guitarist John Williams made an arrangement of the piece Cavatina.
This was best known as the theme music for the film ‘The Deer Hunter’.
The arrangement has enough substance to keep the listeners interested without overloading with unnecessary complications.
There is of course also the matter of how to approach the piece.
When I play classical, I tend to let the notes speak for themselves.
I use techniques such as vibrato and legato sparingly to bring out the true mood of each piece.

My Classical Guitar Repertoire
In this section I am going to list the pieces from my classical guitar repertoire.
In some cases I like to explain why I find the piece so wonderful to play.
Classical Guitar pieces: Spanish composers
By way of introduction, I must say that I have been drawn to Spanish classical guitar music for some time.
Although classical and flamenco guitar playing are quite different styles, nonetheless they come from the same place, namely, Spain.
So, it is natural for me to play music by Spanish composers first.
Here, then are some of my absolutely favourite Spanish classical guitar pieces.
Composer: Isaac Albeniz
Composer: Francisco Tarrega
Pieces: Recuerdos de La Alhambra, Capricho Arabe, Lagrima, Adelita, Prelude in E Minor
Composer: Sebastian Yradier
