This said in this article I will talk about my work playing flamenco guitar in Spanish restaurants.
Live Flamenco Guitar in Spanish Restaurants
You would think, would you not that with so many new ways such as Spotify for restaurants to provide music that this would reduce opportunities for musicians.
Well, yes and no.
Some restaurants are finding it easier to have recorded playlists than to have a live flamenco guitarist.
Other restaurants feel that it is imperative to have a flamenco guitarist present and playing.
The playlist restaurants find that it gets the job done. Furthermore, they can chop and change. They do not even have to stick with flamenco or Spanish music in general. They can put any music in the background and that can be perfectly satisfactory.
The restaurants who book me to play live flamenco guitar are quite rightly very demanding.
They are paying to have me play flamenco guitar and I am not especially low price.
As such and again quite rightly they expect a very high standard of solo Spanish flamenco guitar music.
Their clients will have either vacationed in Spain to rather select destinations and or lived and worked in Spain.
During their time in the Iberian Peninsula, they will have attended flamenco guitar concerts and flamenco dance performances.
These they have enjoyed immensely and expect no less when in Britain.
Spanish Guitar Music for Spanish Restaurants
Being very aware of the expectations that I have explained above, I am committed to playing the highest standard of flamenco guitar music.
I want to impress people but I do not want to bombard people.
There is a difference.
Flamenco by its nature is a powerful expressive music.
That in itself is not a bad thing but we need to be aware of the environment that we are playing in and choose appropriate pieces.
Too often, in my opinion, flamenco performers want to play and dance as loud as possible.
People go to the restaurant primarily to have dinner.
Yes, it is true that I am incredibly fortunate on that sometimes people book because they know I am playing that night.
Even allowing for that I do not want to make so much noise that they cannot enjoy their evening.
The key for me is to play a number of different pieces with different moods.

While it is true that in some videos I am accompanied by castanets or by flamenco dancers using the flamenco hand clapping technique there are many videos where I play solo flamenco guitar.
