Guitar Concert Oundle Festival
The Oundle Fringe Festival have invited me to play flamenco guitar for the guitar concert.
There will be another guitarist and a ukelele player.
My set will be 9.40pm to 10.15 pm.
The late evening time is very typical in Spain for flamenco festivals and other flamenco performances.
In Spain this is because it is still very hot through the spring and summer months until about 9.00pm.
As the evening starts to become a little less hot, although definitely not cold it feels like the ideal atmosphere for flamenco.
Given that I will be playing from 9.40pm in Oundle, I know that I will be feeling a little like I am back in Spain.
Update on my Flamenco Guitar Concert at the Oundle Festival
I wanted to give an update on my concert of flamenco guitar at the Oundle Festival.
It was simply magnificent to play flamenco guitar at the Oundle Festival.
The whole organisation was much better than I had anticipated.
Professional sound engineers had set up high level microphones and speakers and lighting in a very good recital room.
Furthermore, there was a team of people who were organising the event and making sure that everything went perfectly smoothly.
The recital room was completely full with a seated audience.
You get a feel about audiences and this particular audience was exactly what a musician hopes for.
They were silent, attentive, cultured and very appreciative in their applause.
In a sense the audience interacts with you.
You kind of feel that they are sharing the performance with you.
I realise that does not make much sense as we think of audiences as passive receivers of the musical performance.
Whichever way I try to explain this in words I can say that I loved each moment of it and it is indeed concerts like this that made me want to work as a professional flamenco guitarist.
Flamenco Guitar Programme for the Oundle Fringe festival
I am going to play very flamenco pieces.
The festival organiser explained to me that within that same night they already have a classical guitarist.
As such, they felt that it would be ideal to have something completely different.
I am overjoyed because I love playing flamenco guitar first and foremost.
More about my music
The probability is that if you have reached this article you already know something about Spanish Flamenco Guitar Music.
Of, course flamenco guitar playing styles and indeed repertoire does vary quite a lot.
You can listen to audio tracks on this website and I have a dedicated videos page.
Until the last moment I never know how I feel and what I want to play.
However, at this stage I think that I will probably play the following flamenco styles:
Soleares, Bulerías, Farruca, Tientos, Granaína, Zambra Mora, Colombiana, Guajira, Rumba and Seguiriya.
