Spanish Guitar Mexican Night
No2 Pound Street is a specialist wine shop and delicatessen.
They are in Wendover which is just outside Aylesbury on the road to Amersham.
They contacted me because they are presenting a Mexican night.
We discussed the music very carefully.
I thought that fun Latin/Spanish would work well.
To this end I will be joined by a second guitarist; Mike Booth.
Mike has a very special understanding of the Rumba style of the Gipsy Kings. Indeed, he constantly plays at Gipsy Music Festivals in the South of France.
We do not play any Gipsy Kings copywrite music.
However, Mike has developed some exceptionally beautiful chord sequences within this kind of mood.
Furthermore, he has created a very impressive and complex rhythmical style.
Hence while he plays the essential structure, I feel comfortable improvising freely.
We have performed together on many occasions.
Previous to lock down we had a Thursday night residency at a large Spanish restaurant.
I find that people often like this fun relaxed approach and it makes a lovely contrast to my concert style serious flamenco guitar playing.
Of course, Mexican and Spanish are not identical musical cultures.
Yet we are cousins and I imagine that those who study the history of both cultures may be able to show where our styles converge.
We both very much hope that the customers at No 2 pound street enjoy out accompaniment to the Mexican Evening.
