Spanish Guitar Red Lion Brafield
I will be playing Spanish guitar for the Spanish night at The Red Lion at Brafield.
The plan is that I will play approximately 19:00 to 19:30 and after a break either 20:00 of 20:15 for another 30 minutes.
This is an engagement that makes me very happy and I would like to explain why.
The phone rings, I pick up.
Straight off someone starts talking to me in Spanish.
The conversation translated to English goes something like this.
Chef José: “Hey Tomás, this is Chef José. You remember me? We met a few years back when you played a Spanish restaurant in Towcester.”
Tomás: “Sure my friend. How are you keeping?”
Chef José: “I am working now at The Red Lion at Brafield. They are doing a Spanish night and want to know if you can play and if so, how much”
Tomás: “Sure I can. My fees are about £20,000 for 20 minutes but I am sure I can do something for you!”
So, we discuss, José talks with the management and we confirm this.
I guess you may be asking OK so why the touch of comedy above.
It is because of happiness.
This is how it works. And I leant this back when I was about 14 years of age.
You get an engagement to play for a Spanish event somewhere.
Those people are putting their faith in you to provide good Spanish guitar music.
I take that responsibility very seriously and play the very best that I can.
It goes without saying you must be punctual, smart and professional in your manner.
So, chef José remembers me and now I have a new engagement at the delightful Red Lion, Brafield on the Green.
I am planning a wide range of music, including traditional flamenco, South American styles and some very melodic Spanish classical pieces.
My approach is to play pieces of Spanish guitar music which while being of a high standard are yet at the same time very enjoyable to specialist and non- specialist audiences, alike.
